Roll-in, Roll-in, Roll-in

I don't know if other curvy girls like me have noticed this phenomenon.  In fact this phenomenon has turned from curious to down right annoying. What I'm talking about is my shorts rolling up on my inner thigh.
I don't know if this is a curvy girl problem, a running shorts problem or what. I only wear shorts when I'm running/working out so that's when I notice it. It'so frustrating though! It seems like it always happens at the worse time: in the middle of a workout,  when you run into a friend on the trails, pass a cute guy-that's when it strikes.
Please tell me I'm not alone in dealing with this irritation. Will it ever go away!?

10 things I've learned about or from running so far....

1. You are no in competition with anyone else. Only yourself.
2. I really don't like being out in the Texas summer heat. It's to darn hot! Even early in the morning or nightfall!
3. Days that contain running are infinitely better than the ones that do not.
4. Slow and steady is best.
5. Good running shoes are a necessity!
6. You have to find your own motivation/reason to run. Mine is to be healthier and happier.
7.  There were times when there was more than thighs clapping and even now my lil tummy can do the same thing- Yikes! At least I have a Cheer Squad? LOL- No serioulsy sometimes you just gotta laught it off and Keep On Running!
8. You got to have music that moves you.
9. Don't give up if you don't see results right away. Every smart change you make is affecting you in ways you've never imagined.
10. Some days you just have to focus on putting one foot in front of the otherpost signature

Running Frustrations

Running Frustrations

Disclaimer- there will be some whining and complaining in this post. If you do not want to hear it I suggest you check out my other posts. Thanks :)

As you know for a couple of months I have been on this running kick. Now that schools out I want to get serious about. However, I think I have been lviing in a delusion that was abrouptly shattered yesterday. I decided to go run outside last Monday  morning. BIG mistsake! First of all, I was severaly dehydrated. I don't like plain water especiall. I've been drinking Gatoraide too but it's got a lot of sugar. Secondly, there's the Texas heat. Even though it is only mid June-it's hotter than grandma's bicuits! I didn't even run that late Monday morning but the run still got me. All of a sudden I got really really hot and the next thing you know I was puking! Not pretty. Thankfully I stopped and once I slowed down and cooled off I felt much better. All because I was comparing myself to others.

Now to complain. I wanna be like all my running friends who run at least 3 miles or more. A lot of the are triathletes and do 2 to 3 times that amount. I  wanna be able to run as fast at they do for a long as they do. I know, I know Rome wasn't built in a day but I want my body to be! Enough whining. Now on to good realistic news! Last week I ran/walked a total of six miles! Yes Six! I have NEVER walked or jogged that much in my life! Here's to real life! So much better than unrealistic expectations!
Do you ever have unrealistic expectations ? How do you deal with them?

Friday Fragments at Little Early 6/7/12

Mommy's Idea
1. I have a book review due in the morning so I decided to post my Friday Fragments early.

2. School is finally out as of Tuesday. It has been a very long year! By God's grace alone have I made it through this year! I have learned so much about God and life by being in the SILC class.

3. Our six students were challanege and completely stole my heart!

4.I have continued to run. I want to run a half marathon in December. Crazy hunh!?

5. I'm start to train now because Texas summer are brutal! I'm not big on running outside to begin with and this running in the heat is for the birds! I'm trying to run either really early or really late at night.

6. Speaking of heath and fitness my hubby just bought me (okay I should say us-becasue he uses it too) a Bowflex! It's so cool and so easy to use. I'm feeling muscles I didn't know I had before! :)

7. Also, I want to thank everyone for their prayers. My husband started his new job today and so far it sounds like a great place to work! :)

8. I still do not have a permanate job yet. I don't like it at all either. Instead of worrying I am trying to trust God but some times it's easier said than done.  I am supposed to have an interview some time the week of June 18 for a permanate positon in the class I worked in this school year. Please pray that God's will be done!

9. Since I've been working out I've really been struggeling with eating sugary stuff. Particulary cottan candy. It's like I cravy the stuff. I'm not sure why? If this is what exercise causes maybe I should stop! LOL :)

10. My baby girl has been on puppy vacation this week with my mother in law. Boy do I miss her! I've gotten a lot of work done but I miss the pitter patter of puppy paws on the floor! I hope she comes home soon!

11. Sunday I'm voluteering at another triathalon. They are so much fun to work and such an inspiration.
What are your plans for the weekend?

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful weekend!

Runtastic!

Saturday I competed in my first 5k race. Okay not first but more about that in a minute. I ran in the Houston Astros Race for the Pennant 5k.
I was super nervous the day of the race. You see I've competed in a 5k before but I did not finish it. That day my shins started killing me ( from not running outside enough) and I just got intimidated by everyone leaving me. So I quit before I finished the race. There were several times Friday night and Saturday morning that I would have given up without the love and unfailing support of my husband. He was there with me every step of the way--loving me, encouraging me and pushing me.

Well when it was time for the race for race you feel the energy in the air. There were about 2500 people running the 5k and 10k so I kinda felt like I was part of a heard of cattle waiting for the race to start. Still I had a peace.

Well the bell finally sounded and off we went. The first part of the race was easy. Then we got to the bridge. Yeah. For one thing I almost trip over part of the bridge. Then my calves  started killing me. I just had keep telling myself "one step at a time." Well finally all those steps go me to the finish line. I was exhausted when I got there but so happy. I had race against my fears and I won! Below is the picture of me my hubby took just past the finish line. Yes those are tears of joy!

What fears have you over come that have been the most rewarding?

Tri Time

Hey everyone! I know I'm late for my usual Monday post but things have been a bit crazy. Sunday I participated in my first trigirl event. Okay I didn't participate just really I just volunteered.
For those of you who don't know. Trigirl is a triathlon group and events just for women.
I would love to participate in a triathlon  some day . Let me clarify I would love to a duathalon! not a Triathalon! I have open water issues (you don't  know what in the water!-UCK! ) Anyways here's how my day went yesterday! :)
The race started at 7:00 am. We had to be at the race area by 5:30  am ( to help with race preep) and the event was an hour away from the event. So we had to get up really early I got to be at the water station/turn around point with some amazing ladies, Faye and Netti.

It was a great location to be at . From where I was I could watch both the runners and the bikers. The race finished about 9 am. It was great! I can't wait to share some more tri stories with you! :)

Friday Fragments 5-11-12

1. Sunday I will be volunteering in my first triathlon. I am super excited a good friend of mine is running in it and she talked me into volunteering. The bad thing is that the event is a little over away from my house and I have to be there at 5:30 am. Sunday. That is way to early to be out and about on a Sunday!

2. I hope to possibly participate in a triathlon someday. I have issues with the swim part. Do you know the kinds of things that could possibly be in open water. Can we say GROSS!

3. I am back to running again. I'm still looking for a running buddy who lives close and that I could train with. I do have some friends in Houston that like to run though. :)

5. Memorial Day weekend I will be participating in the Houston Astros race for the Pennant. It's a race to raise money for the Astros foundation for under privileged children. I love the Astros! I can't wait to run and possible meet some of the players!

5. My husband is still unemployed. He's been hunting to no avail. God has provided and given us such a peace.  We are just trying to be patient and trust Him. Sometimes it's easier than other.s.

6. I want to change the layout and design of my blog. I was just wondering do you you change yours yourself and why? or do you have someone else do it and why?  I want someone else to change mine but I've having a hard time convincing my husband of this.

7. I only got about four hours sleep last night so I am going to call it a night. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

J is for jogging and jelly beans

 Jogging
I like to jog. Until about a two years ago you would've never ever heard me utter those words. Jogging is stress releasing to me. It clears my head and renews my energy. It's my "me" time. I turn off the world and recharge. I haven't been able to run in couple of months due to some medical problems. I finally got the ok last week to start jogging again. YEAH!  I am training to run a 5k. I don't think I am going to run one but I am at least going to train run one. I am following this training program. You can train along with me to if you'd like.

Jelly beans
I am addicted to jelly beans! I found some that are gluten free and I'm eating them all the time!Yet, another reason reason I need to start jogging again. Have you ever had something that you were addicted to that you had to give up? What was it and how to you break the addiction?  post signature

Run of Love

This past Saturday I participated in my first real run. What I mean by a real run is that it was my first official race. I ran the 1 mile race in the Texas Mom's for CCA run.  CCA is the Children's Craniofacial Association (CCA)nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower and give hope to individuals and families with facial anomalies. My friend Becky son named Wade is a special needs child with facial anomalies. She was the one who first told me about the race. I couldn't say no. First of all it was a local race and second of all it benefited a group that helped special needs children. For those of you who don't know. I really enjoy teaching and working with special needs children. In fact in the spring I am going to go back to school and get my teacher certification so that I can work with them all the time.  I was super excited about the race until the night before the race. Then I was super nervous. I mean here I am a fluffy girl trying to run a mile race. What was I thinking!? Well I finally calmed down and decided that I was going to do the race. At the very least I was getting some exercise and raising money for a great organization.  The next day I got to the race sight early so I could watch and cheer on the 5k runners. That will be next year. This runner is my inspiration.
I figure that if this woman can run a 5K pushing two kids and still place in the top 25 then I can definately run the one mile race. Here's a shirt that one team of runners had at the event. I'd love to have one. It's so COOL and shares a great message!

Well before I knew it. It was time for the race to being. Here's a picture of me at the starting line.

Soon we were off. It was the most exhilarating thing I've ever done. Then all of a sudden my shins started killing me! I've  been training to run on the treadmill. I didn't realize running on concrete would make such a difference! Ouch! Well I finished the race in last place but at least I best time on a mile run EVER!  I'm so proud of myself! More importantly I reminded myself that I can indeed do whatever I set my mind too.

Is there anything you thought you could do and then you put your mind to it and did it?
