Book Review: Allon

Book Review: Allon

I am reviewing this book for Glass Road Public Relations.
About the Author: (from website)
Shawn lives in Antioch, Tennessee. Married for 25 years they have a daughter, Briana. Shawn began writing in her late teens and eventually writing for the 1980s Filmation animated series “BraveStarr.” She won awards and earning recognition for screenwriting from the American Screenwriters Association. While pitching historical fiction to various publishers, her daughter asked her if she could write her a fantasy story.
About the Book (from it's website-www.allonbooks.com)
The Forces of Evil Grow Stronger...

Long ago, the land of Allon was a paradise until the fall of the Guardians paved the way for the rise of the Dark Way. King Marcellus now controls the land as his forefathers did, with an
iron fist and the help of the evil spirit, Dagar. But an ancient prophecy speaks of a time to come when the Guardians will return and Allon will be restored—lead by its rightful heir.

At sixteen, Prince Ellis is forced to flee from the life he has known, pursued by the King’s soldiers. With help from two mysterious strangers he meets in the forest, he must find a way to defeat the evil forces and prove himself worthy to be king if Allon is to have any hope of salvation. Along the way he will face trials that test his character, his wisdom, his courage, and ultimately, his heart.
 My Thoughts
At first I wasn't sure if I'd be able to "get into" this book, but that uncertainty was quickly dispelled .I really enjoyed the book. Allon is a wonderful mixture of Lord of the Rings, mixed with Indiana Jones with a dash of the Bible thrown in. Shawn Lamb does an excellent job on integrating the themes of faith, endurance, and commitment through out the book. The characters are real and believable. I felt like I was on the journey with Prince Ellis to become King of Allon. If there was one thing I would change-it would be to add a character list to the beginning or end of the book. There are so many different yet similar character that at times it was hard to keep track of who was doing what. The story was very suspenseful . Once I got started reading I didn't want to put the book down. It also challenged me in my faith. Stick to following God and His word no matter what happens. God will reward your faithfulness. I would definitely recommend this book to others. I can't wait to read the sequel to Allon.

X, Y, and Z

X, Y and Z
X is for X-files. My favorite sci-fi show. My husband begs to differ. His favorite sci-fi show is Stargate SG-1. X-Files is a classic. A 90's icon-like Friends. I was a skeptic of the show at first but I it brought out a lot of good points. Is there really life out there? There are also a couple of other reasons that I like the show.  First of all, I wasn't allowed to watch the show when I was growing up. My parent's thought the show was "weird" so I couldn't watch it. My sister would tape the show and when would watch it when mom and dad were gone. I know that's part of iX-files appeal. The same way with the Simpsons.
I think David Duchovny is hot! I don't know what it is about him but I've always liked him.
Which show do you like better, X-Files or Stargate SG-1 ?

Y is for Young
Oh my goodness! I had an "old moment" yesterday! I'm sure I've probably had them before but yesterday was the first day I consciously did it. What I mean by "old moment" is when I do something that old people do.  Here's what I did. I was in census training. Our training class is mainly made up of 18-21 old guys. Needless to say they were talking about girls. Without thinking I begain to give them my advice. Growing up I hated it when people older than me would give me advice. Now, I only wish I had listened. It reminded me of the "Sun Screen Song". Enjoy! It still has great advice.
Z is for zapped from Zumba
This morning was the first time I took the Zumba class offered at the gym. Oh my goodness. It's so much fun but I was totally zapped after it was over. I almost fell asleep in the shower in the woman's locker room. I feel awesome except for a few sore muscles. This was only the beginners class I can't wait to go to the advanced class. I'm gonna take it slow though.

I want to thank Arlee for coming up with this wonderful blog challenge. I have read a lot great blogs and made lots of new friends. Let's all stay in touch.

W is for Water

W is for Water
I've been needing a mental health day-so I took it. I went with my friend Ev to Galveston Island.  Galveston is only about 45-1hour from where we leave so it's fantastic for a day trips. First we went to Moody Gardens. If you've never been to Moody Gardens you can find out more about it here. At first I was really bummed about Moody Gardens-they didn't have the Rainforest pyramid open and the Colonel Paddle Wheel Boat was closed. Those were the two attractions I had been really looking forward too. However, I decided not to let that ruin my day. I'm so glad that I didn't! We ended up going to the Aquarium pyramid at Moody Gardens. It was fantastic. Watching the fish swim. Is so relaxing. It reminded me about Matthew 6:30 where The Bible talks about how God clothes the lilies and how much more he will care for us.
The penguins by far were the coolest! They are so funny! There was this one penguin who kept following us as well walked around the penguin habitat. I think it might have been because I had a lot of yellow on and he/she thought I was a penguin! LOL
After Moody Gardens we went to Gaidos. I had never been to Gaidos before. I had heard it was this wonderful classy, swank restaurant along the sea wall with fantastic food. They were right. I've never had such wonderfully, fresh food! Usually food that fresh comes from home. I especially loved their crab cheesecake. No it's not a dessert-it's an appetizer and AMAZING appetizer. The baked mahi-mahi was good too. I can't wait to go back and have some of their world famous oysters!
No trip to the Galveston would be complete without stopping by Ben and Jerry's for some ice cream. I love their Pish Food! After lunch we made it to the beach. We choose to go to the west end of the island because its less developed. We drove right down to the shoreline and got out our chairs and blankets. I've never realize before how soothing the sound of the waves were. It was so relaxing. It seemed like the wind and sea washed all my worries and cares away.  After several hours we realized we had to come back to reality-like it or not.
I hope you've enjoyed my letter W post. I apologize for not having more pictures. I left my camera in my friends car. As soon as I can I will update this post with pictures I took. Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Letters U and V

Letter U and V
I want to give everyone an update I am so much better. Up until Friday I continued having my horrible allergy headaches Thankfully some rain utterally washed all the pollen away-At least for now. Since my headaches have ceased I have been running around like a mad woman viciously trying to catch up. Understand that these headaches were unusually dabiliating. Our house was so untidy! It made me crazy! Things are better now. MUCH Better! :)
Also this weekend was Relay for Life. Our church had a both. Our unique theme this year was "Lick Cancer" and we sold lollipops. There were several vacancies on the schedule for working the booth-especially during the night. My hubby and I vallently stayed. Well I did. I finally told my hubby the he needed to go home at midnight since he had to work the next day. I lasted till about 2 am  That's about all I have time for. I have to vamoose to work
