Friday Fragments 8/16/13

1. School is here and I am so not ready for it! I really enjoyed summer school and it was nice to have paycheck during the summer . Next summer though,  I'm either going to take the summer off or work a job that is not school related.

2. This year I will be working with high school special education students. This is a big change from working with elementary students. I think this is going to be a good change. I'm just a little bit nervous about it.

3. I will be working close to Corkgrinders. It's a new coffee shop/bar in the area. It's a lot of fun to hangout there. If your ever in the Baytown area you should check out Corkgrinders. Look for a review of Corkgrinders coming soon!

4. My cat has been acting even weirder than normal the past few days. She's decided to become a lap kitty. She just sits in my lap and purrs. I can't tell if she's just decided to be more affectionate since her self imposed exile in the cat room or if somethings wrong with her. I hope it's the former instead of the latter.

5. Sophie is not sure what to think of the cat again. She's been in her cat room so long that when she does come out our dachshund gets so excited and scares the cat back into her room. When will Sophie learn that a 13 year old cat doesn't want to play.

6. I've decided to do more artsy/craftsy stuff again. It really makes my soul happy when I create things. I'll post some pics of them soon. I'd love to know what you think

7. I'm taking a quilting class Sunday. I'm super excited about it but also SUPER nervous. I just barely took my sewing machine out of the box. Not to mention we have a photo shoot that morning and a baby shower that afternoon so I'm gonna be running around like a crazy woman. Say a prayer for me Sunday I'm gonna need it!

8. Oh yeah! I am in the process of switching my blog over to WordPress. If you have any advice, tips, suggestions, I love to hear them.

Well that's it for my Friday Fragments. Do you have any plans for this weekend? I hope you have a safe and wonderful weekend!

C cats and chocolate

C is for Cats and Chocolate

Well this one of my furry babies- Rosie. She's not actually a baby. She's 11 years old. I refer to her a "Momma" because she's old enough to be my mom in cat years. She's very laid back, and happy go lucky except when you pick her up. Then all hell breaks loose.  She absolutely hates being picked up. No matter what! I don't know why. I've picked her up since she was a kitten!  Is that normal for cats?
But on the plus side, she has definitely mellowed out and become more affectionate with age. She loves her belly rubbed! She always has a smile and a meow for me when I come home-no matter what kind of day I've had.

Now on to one of my most favorite things ever CHOCOLATE! I am a chocoholic. Espeically when it comes to dark chocolate. Here's one of my favorite chocolate recipies. I espeically love to drink this during our hot Texas summers!

Frozen Hot Chocolate

  • 6 ounces of chocolate chips ( you can use high quality dark choc. like he suggest, it would be even better)
  • 1/2 cup of  1/2 and 1/2 ( I used 1/4 cup cream and 1/4 cup milk because that is what I had)
  • 3 cups of ice
Melt chocolate in 1/2 and 1/2. Be sure not to boil. I did this in the microwave, but you have to watch it closely if you do it that way. And stir every 30 seconds or so. Once melted place in blender with ice.  Blend until desired consistency. Mine had some very small ice chunks in it. We liked it like that. It was not smooth like a milkshake.

Homekeepers Journal for October 19, 2011

In my kitchen this week- lots of dehydrating and freezing fresh produce. I discovered a new store this weekend called Joe V.'s and it has incredible prices especially on produce!

Around the house-Not a lot. I was planning on getting started on some serious house cleaning today since my parents will be coming for a visit in less than a month. However my stomach is really upset this morning so I'm taking it easy.

The family-Hubby's schedule has slowed down a bit so he's been able to help around the house more. It's such a blessing to have a hubby who likes to help around the house. The girls are good both of them shedding their summer coats for thicker ones. Fur is everywhere!

New projects-Nothing really new just trying to continue working on my Christmas projects. I have about 60+ days to get all the projects done.

Ideas-really want to try freeze ahead meals. Has anyone tried this? If so what's been your experince?

Light Bulb moments-Just trying to be more positve and have a brighter outlook. It's amazing how changing your outlook  really affects things.

Rosie Poem

Rosie

My beautiful Rose
My how you've changed
Since Sophie's been gone
You used to stay in your room
Annoyed, sleepy,, grumpy
Now you romp, fetch and even eat potato chips!
You act more like a frolicking kitten now
Instead of a ten year old cat
And I don't mind that one bit!

C is for Calico Cat-day 3 in the A to Z Blogging Challenge

C is for Calico Cat

C is for Calico  Cat-not just any cat my calico cat.   A calico cat is a cat that is  tri-colored, with patches of white, red or orange, and black fur
My calico cat's name is Nosy Rosie. I call her Rosie for short. I named her Nosy Rosie because when I brought her home she nosed and looked around everywhere. Literally! From on top of the kitchen table, to under the couch, to up on top of the curtains! She still likes to nose around some but not as much as she use to. At nine cat years old (52 in human years) I just don't think she gives a crap anymore. She snuggles with me almost every night and she'll get up and hang out with me while everyone else is still in bed. Lately she has decided to take on the role of my alarm clock. She does a great job of getting me up at the right time. Now, if I can only get her not to "go off" on the weekends.
She's also very quirky. I have never EVER chased her with a broom or even thought about it for that matter. However, as soon as she sees the broom she flips out and goes into hiding. Rosie has even managed to teach Sophie (our dog) to be afraid of the broom. Rosie also hates to be picked up. Does not matter who or why-- she hates it regardless!. I pick her up anyway and she starts telling me what she thinks of me. When Rosie is upset meows are short and crisp They sound very similar to a dog barking. Weird hunh? I am glad that I can't understand what she telling me because I know its not very nice.
She also has this tongue thing. Well at least she used to. Rosie used to stick out her tongue when she's mad. I'm not kidding.! She would do it and it was so funny that as soon I saw it I would bust out laughing. She did that quite a while but I think she finally got tired of me laughing at her. I'm sure she's probably giving me the bird with one of her paws. now. I just haven't noticed yet.
Still despite her quirkiness I would not trade her for the world. She is very loyal and loving. This is Rosie my calico cat. Do you or have you ever had a cat? What did you think of them? Did they do anything unique or quirky?

My Girls Part 2 Rosie

Rosie
Dogs, think they are Human and Cat's think they're God!

Well this is my other baby, Rosie. She's not actually a baby. She's 9 1/2 years old.
Rosie and Sophie are as different as night and day but that's ok. I wouldn't have it any other way!
