Book Review: A Heartbeat Away (In the Quilts of Love Series) by S.Dionne Moore
When a band of runaway slaves brings Union-loyal Beth Bumgartner a wounded Confederate soldier named Joe, it is the catalyst that pushes her to defy her pacifist parents and become a nurse during the Battle of Antietam.
Her mother's mysterious goodbye gift is filled with quilt blocks that bring comfort to Beth during the hard days and lonely nights, but as she sews each block, she realizes there is a hidden message of faith within the pattern that encourages and sustains her. Reunited with Joe, Beth learns his secret and puts the quilt's message to its greatest test---but can betrayal be forgiven?

My thoughts on the book:
I love books set in the Civil War area. However, I had a hard time finishing this book. The plot was very similar to many other books out there set in the Civil War ear. Boy met girl when he is wounded. Boy gets sick and is taken care of by the girl. I found this event repeating often throughout the story. I did like the fact that the heroine did have a flaw. This made her more realistic. I think all to many heroines in stories are perfect. I also thought there were to many question to keep track of while reading the story. I kept wondering what was going on. I was given this book by Litfuse Public Relations. I was given this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Book Review: Jade and the Tooth Fairy by Jacinta Zachariah
About the Book:
A magical tale about a little girl called Jade
who stays up to meet the Tooth Fairy and goes to fairyland with her. She is
also in for a pleasant surprise when she finds out what happens to all the
teeth the Tooth Fairy takes!
My thoughts about the book:
Jade and the Tooth Fairy is a delightful childrens book. It written with such charm and imagaination. I had
never thought of what the tooth fairy does with the teeth after she
collects them. The illustartions look hand drawn and add to the
uniqueness of the story. I highly reommend this book for any child about
5-6 who is courious about the tooth fairy.

Book Review: New Wings a Novel by Donna Stanley
I am reviewing this book for GlassRoad Public Relations for honest review. and received no compensation for a favorable review.

About the Book:
Olivia Stanton always knew that the Bible says guardian angels exist. But, in all her seventeen years, she assumed they only showed up when people were dying or needed rescue from sudden disaster. Her assumption is shattered with the appearance of her own guardian angel - in the form of good-looking Mike, no less. As Olivia gets to know Mike, more and more of her misconceptions about the spiritual realms are revealed. And, as her spiritual eyes are opened to the presence of angels all around, she'll find they can be good or evil.
My thoughts about the book:
This book will change the way you think! It opens your eyes to spiritual warfare and helps you to become more aware things going on around you. This book shows people how prayers impact the spiritual world in ways we can't see or imagine. This book is riveting once you start reading it you will not be able to put it down. This novel is geared toward young adults as an alternative to books about vampires, werewolves, witches and demons. The novel does a great job of dealing with the paranormal genre in a positive manner. This book is a great read with an engaging story and interesting characters.
About the Author:
Donna Stanley lives in the beautiful Endless Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania with her husband, Jonathan, and their teenage daughter, Olivia. She attended Philadelphia Biblical University, Moody Bible Institute, and Mansfield University, where she studied angelology, demonology, and the anthropology of religion. She was a youth leader for ten years and a pastor's wife for sixteen years. She now serves as a young adult mentor and leader in her local church.

As Jake sets about doing the business of ministry, Petey's continued interference brings chaos to the community of curiously off and eccentric people-residents like the faith-avoiding veterinarian Sally Grainger and Tassy, a young runaway with a secret. An expert at hiding his fears, Jake wonders if all this-and the cat to boot-is more than he can handle. What is Petey's real "mission"? Perhaps something larger than Jake---or even Petey---can possibly know.

About The Book
Women today are fading. In a female culture built on Photoshopped perfection and Pinterest fantasies, we've lost the ability to dream our own big dreams. So busy trying to do it all and have it all, we've missed the life we were really designed for. And we are paying the price. The rise of loneliness, depression, and anxiety among the female population in Western cultures is at an all-time high. Overall, women are two and a half times more likely to take antidepressants than men. What is it about our culture, the expectations, and our way of life that is breaking women down in unprecedented ways?
In this vulnerable memoir of transformation, Rebekah Lyons shares her journey from Atlanta, Georgia, to the heart of Manhattan, where she found herself blindsided by crippling depression and anxiety. Overwhelmed by the pressure to be domestically efficient, professionally astute, and physically attractive, Rebekah finally realized that freedom can come only by facing our greatest fears and fully surrendering to God's call on our lives. This book is an invitation for all women to take that first step toward freedom. For it is only when we free-fall that we can truly fly.
My thoughts about the book
I was instantly drawn in by this book. It was as if Rebekah Lyons was looking into my life and my struggles. I often wonder what my purpose is and how I can start living it. Lyons helps us to see that true surrender to God will help us find a life more satisfying than we can imagine. I really liked the way the author used quotes at the beginning of the chapters to tie in her theme. This book is a short but powerful read.
About the Author

As a self-confessed mess, Rebekah wears her heart on her sleeve, a benefit to friends and readers alike.
Alongside her husband, Gabe, Rebekah serves as cofounder of Q Ideas, a nonprofit organization that helps Christian leaders winsomely engage culture. Her favorite pastime is spent with her nose in a book and a discriminating cup of coffee in hand. You can find Rebekah on Twitter and Facebook.

Book Review: Bread and Wine by Shauna Niequist
About the Book:
As a follow up to her two-bestselling books, Bittersweet and Cold Tangerines, author and blogger Shauna Niequist returns with the perfect read for those who love food and value the community and connection of family and friends around the table.
Bread & Wine is a collection of essays about family relationships, friendships, and the meals that bring us together. This mix of Anne Lamott and Barefoot Contessa is a funny, honest, and vulnerable spiritual memoir. Bread & Wine is a celebration of food shared, reminding readers of the joy found in a life around the table. It's about the ways God teaches and nourishes people as they nourish the people around them. It's about hunger, both physical and otherwise, and the connections between the two.
With wonderful recipes included, from Bacon-Wrapped Dates to Mango Chicken Curry to Blueberry Crisp, readers will be able to recreate the comforting and satisfying meals that come to life in Bread & Wine
My Thoughts about the Book
This book was a delight to read. It was the perfect combination of two of my favorite things; cooking and writing. Shauna writes about relationships and how food and eating around the table helps to strengthen and enhance these relationships. I love how Shauna is open and honest about her journey. I felt like I was there with her throughout the book whether it was when she was learning how to cook or when she talks about her struggles with infertility. I love how she ties each chapter around a theme and ties in a recipe with the theme. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves family, friends and food!

Zoe and Zak and the Ghost Leopard by Lars Guignard Book Review

About the Book:
Imagine
you're totally lost in a strange city with no idea where you are and no way
home.
Now
imagine that elephants and snake charmers start telling you that you've been
chosen to save the world.
Would
you even believe them? What would you
do?
Zoe Guire isn't sure. Having that elephant talk to her was
really weird, and, as a rule, Zoe doesn't do weird. Except the thing is, when
Zoe goes along on her mom's business trip to India, things get very weird, very
quickly. Soon after she arrives, Zoe finds herself tagging alongside a kid
named Zak, lost in a crazy city, with no money and no way home.
And those are the least of Zoe's troubles. Because if she's
to believe the scary-looking snake charmer guy sitting in the corner, she and
Zak have been chosen -- chosen to protect some kind of mythical animal called
the Ghost Leopard from who knows what.
Now, the further they get into the mountains, the more
crazily impossible things get. Carpets fly and statues talk and if either Zoe
or Zak want to make it back to their parents, or the sixth grade, or anything
even close to normal, they're going to have to make some new friends, learn
some new tricks, and listen, really listen to that talking elephant. Because if
they don't, the world will never be the same again.
Join Zoe and Zak as
they journey high into the Himalayas to a place few have been and even fewer
have returned to tell about it.
Live life beyond the
edge.
My thoughts about the book:
Zoe and Zak and the Ghost Leopard was a delight to read. The author did a great job of weaving action and humor along with interesting facts about the history and culture of India into the story. The author does a great job of describing the scenes that I feel like I'm there with Zoe and Zack.
Once I started reading the book I had a hard time putting it down. I know this story is geared towards children but I think adults would enjoy it as well. I know I did.

Book Review: Chief Complaint Brain Tumor by John Kerastas
About the Book:
At 57 years old, I thought I was the poster child
for fifty-year old healthiness: I competed in triathlons, rode in 100 mile
biking events and ate a healthy diet chock full of organic vegetables. Then I
discovered that I had a brain tumor the size of my wife’s fist.
My memoir chronicles the first year I spent
addressing tumor-related health issues: preparing for my first operation,
discovering a dangerous skull infection, having the infected portion of my
skull surgically removed, learning about my substantial vision and cognitive
losses, undergoing rehab and radiation treatments, and learning to live with my
“new normal.” And, as best I can tell, the phrase “new normal” is the medical
community’s code words for “You’re alive, so quit bitchin’.”
As my health changed, so did my sense of humor. My
humor started out superficially light-hearted prior to the first operation;
transmogrified into gallows humor after several subsequent operations; and
leveled out as somewhat wry-ish after radiation and rehab.
Topics I write about in the book include:
§ How not to tell
everybody you have a brain tumor
§ Why it’s a lot of work
to die in this country
§ Why I had difficulties
in naming my tumor
§ How I negotiated
bathroom visits with “Nurse Don’t-Bother-Me”
§ Why I could prove that I
was the “dumbest gguy in the room”
§ Why someone compared the
back of my head to a diseased goat
§ How I flunked a job
interview with myself
This is a book for anybody interested in memoirs
about people dealing with personal crises, for patients trudging through rehab,
for caretakers helping victims of serious illnesses, or for anybody looking for
an unexpected chuckle from an unlikely subject.
About the Book:This book had me hooked from the first page. I loved how the author talked about his illness and treatment in a positive, humorous and frank manner. The author presents his story in such a personable manner you feel like you are conversing with an old friend. Parts of this book were so funny they made me laugh out loud. Review: Chipped China Tea Room

The decor and atmosphere inside is unique, feminine and fun. Guys this doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't come to the Chipped China Tea Room. :) I was every impressed by the fact that the staff knew what it meant to be and eat gluten free. The chef even came out to talk to me and assured me that everything would be taken care of. And it was. I ordered the tuna salad
It was delicious! The tuna salad was so light, creamy and flavorful. I almost forgot one important part of the Chipped China Tea Room-the tea! I ordered the blood orange ice tea and it was to die for. This is saying something coming from a person who usually only drinks hot tea and water! I also adore the cute little tea pots and saucers they bring the hot tea out in. I even got one of their shrimp salad sandwiches to go to split with my hubby. Only it was so good that my hubby never saw it!

I highly recommend The Chipped China Tea Room to anyone who wants a good, light meal at a good price with wonderful service and atmosphere. You can find out more about The Chipped China Tea Room by clicking here.

The Jewel TriologyAnthology by Hallee Bridgeman

About the book:
This is a collection of all three books in the Jewel Trilogy: Sapphire Ice, Emerald Fire, and (best selling) Topaz Heat! Saphire Ice-Robin’s heart is as cold as her deep blue eyes. After a terrifying childhood, she trusts neither God nor men. With kindness and faith, Tony prays for the opportunity to shatter the wall of ice around her heart. When a frigid phantom from the forgotten past threatens their future, Tony’s unshakable confidence and Robin’s new-found faith must melt the threatening maelstrom.
Emerald Fire-Green eyed Maxine fights daily to extinguish the embers of her fiery youth. Long time friend Barry’s faith in God is deeply shaken when he is suddenly widowed. One spontaneous weekend shortly after the funeral, in the most unlikely of circumstances, they elope. But catastrophe threatens to wreck the happily ever after love story neither of them ever dreamed could come true. Only trusting God can carry them through the fire. Topaz Heat-Amber eyed Sarah remembers absolutely nothing from her bloodcurdling younger years. Derrick fled a young life of crime to become a billionaire’s successful protégé. The very instant Derrick meets Sarah, the temperature starts to rise. After years of ignoring the spark between them, Sarah’s honey colored eyes finally see beyond Derrick’s violent youth. Just as they surrender to love, the patient past springs a decade old snare. Now the heat is on. Sarah and Derrick must truly live their faith to make it through.
My thoughts:
All the books in the Jewel Trilogy will get and keep your attention from the first word. They cleverly intertwine all the elements of a well written story without compromising Christian values. I have to admit I was a little worried when I saw it was an edgy Christian romance, however Hallee gave some spice to the novel while keeping it clean and enjoyable. I love how the stories talk about living out your faith and that with God nothing is impossible. I recommend this series of novels by Hallee Bridgeman to anyone looking for a great read. I cant wait to see what she will write next.
About the Author:
Hallee Bridgeman lives with her husband and their three children in small town Kentucky. When she’s not writing Christian romance novels, she blogs about all things cooking and homemaking at Hallee the Homemaker.
Hallee started writing when her oldest child and only daughter was a baby, but a busy professional career and being the wife of a deployed soldier had her shelve her books for another time. Two more children, a cross country move, and God’s perfect timing brought the books off of the shelf to be dusted off and presented to you now.
Hallee loves coffee, campy action movies, and regular date nights with her husband. Above all else, she loves God with all of her heart, soul, mind, and strength; has been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ; and relies on the presence of the Holy Spirit. She prays her books are a blessing to you and would love to hear back from you.

Review: The Runner by A Wayne Gill
About the book:
What happens when a brilliant attorney combines his
legal knowledge with his insight into relationship? Well, imagine
Nicholas Sparks and John Grisham got together and decided to write a
novel. Wayne Gill's The Runner is the story of a preacher's son who foregoes a path to the pulpit for law school in the city.
----
Michael
Knight has the perfect life - a perfect family, a perfect relationship
and a perfect future. Groomed to follow in his father's footsteps,
Michael's career as a preacher is laid out before him. But he has a
secret that will take him from being a small town preacher's kid to the
heart of the big city, where everything seems golden, glittery and
glamorous. When he gets the opportunity of a lifetime, Michael glimpses a
future of power, influence and wealth. The whole world is his for the
taking, but at what cost? Will he trade in all he has been for all he
could become?
My thoughts:
Once I started reading
this novel, I couldn't put it down. The twists and turns in the plot
kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat. I loved how he explain
legal terms especially how they relate to Christianity. The themes of
mercy, grace, and redemption run through the book. It's a modern day take
on the Prodigal Son tale from the Bible. The characters were easy to
relate to and the plot was one that could definitely happen in real
life. The novel reminds me of works similar to John Grisham. I look
forward to reading the next book in the series.
About the Author:
When he isn't crafting legal dramas, Wayne Gill serves as CEO
and Managing Partner of Gill Dion & Forsyth P.A., a law firm with
offices in Florida and Georgia that serves some of the top companies in
the world, including AT&T, Hilton Hotels Corporation, SunTrust Bank,
and American Express.
While practicing law, running a successful law firm, and writing
novels keeps him super busy, Wayne is also a passionate, committed

Pinks Pizza Review
I heard of Pinks Pizza thanks to an app on my phone called find me gluten free. When we walked into the pizzeria I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the manager on duty was aware of gluten intolerance and celiac disease. Then he explained to me the extra measures that they took to make sure that the gluten free pizzas did not become cross contaminated. When I looked at the different pizzas they make I knew I was in love! My hubby and I finally decided on the the This Guy Pizza. It toppings included prosciutto, Italian sausage, rosemary chicken, goat cheese, mozzarella, spinach, mushroom, tomato and roasted garlic with pizza sauce. The price was comparable to other pizza chains but the ingredients tasted far better in my opinion.
The pizza laughed in my mouth and danced all the way to my stomach. It was the best pizza I've ever eaten. If you are ever in Houston's midtown, or Height's area check out Pinks Pizza. You'll be glad you did! :)

Shapely Girl Fitness Wrap Up and Give away
For the past month I have had the pleasure of participating in the Shapely Girl Fitness Review/Challenge. At first I was dreading this review. I mean who likes to exercise. However, this review has showed me how much I need to exercise and that I actually enjoy exercise when I do it.
The DVD I chose to review was Debra Mazda's Let's Get Moving 2, Cardio Toning with weights. I didn't think I could get much toning with only using 5lb weights. I was pleasantly proven wrong. I love that Debra has a circle time on her video. In her circle time she talks with women of all different shapes and sizes about being healthy. I didn't watch the circle time part of the video but I did find it refreshing to watch once a week. It was a great reminder to fitness and healthy living one day and one step at at time.
Another thing about the DVD I love was the premixes. Debra gives you a variety of workouts with different links to choose from. I love this fact because some days I just seem to have more time than others. I usually did one longer work out a week mixed with two shorter ones. I found this worked great with my schedule and also kept the workout from becoming monotonous.
I also think through this DVD I became more confident in myself. I felt comfortable working out with the ladies on the DVD. We were all relatively the same size where as when I work out at the gym I often feel intimidated by the smaller, healthier looking ladies. I think that because I felt more confident I was able to begin dealing with issues involving over eating. I still have a long way to go but because I feel more secure in myself I am beginning to make progress in this area.
I did make some small strides in my fitness level this month (well at least till I hurt my hand. Warning: picture is not for those with weak stomachs or who are easily grossed out! ). I was reminded what a great stress reliever and energizer exercising is! Here's a pic of me on the last day of the workout
If you'd like to see how my measurements changed check out this link
Injuring my hand and being unable to work out for the last week and a half has definitely but a dent in things but as soon as I am able I will be doing cardio and toning again with Debra and the gang!
Shapely Girl Fitness Week 3 (in review)
It's hard to believe that today starts week four our #shapelygirl
fitness review. This month has flown by! If you would like to read all
my post about shapely girl click here.
Last week was a slow week due to some injuries but I am loving the
results I've been seeing. I have lost about 5 more pounds bringing me to
to 239. The best part (at least I think so) is that I think I'm
starting to look more toned and sculpted.
Here's how week went:
Monday- it was a rough day and I didn't want to work out because I
thought I was too busy (and stressed) to work out. I did though and boy
am I glad. It helped me to get things into perspective and to let go of
some of the stress. It also gave my energy level a big boost so I could
get done everything I needed too!:)
Wednesday-I went to grab for something Tuesday evening and when I
did my back felt like it was burning. I also immediately started
hurting. Since it was still bothering me on Wednesday I decided not to
work out.
Friday-My back a little better so I decided to the cardio part of the DVD and skip the weight training. It felt good! :)
Saturday I participated in the step up for Down Syndrome walk. I got to support a great cause and got a great workout too! :)
Shapely Girl Week 2 Update

Today began my third week of participating in the shapelygirl fitness challenge. I am reviewing and working out to Debra Mazda's Let's Get Moving 2: Cardio Toning with Weights. Here's how things went last week.
Sunday-The Lord's day so I didn't work out
Monday- Great workout. I was finally able to do most of the cardo without having to pause the DVD for a break. :) I was so energized after the workout! I felt like the energizer bunny! I just kept going and going. The only bad thing about it was that I did have a hard time sleeping.
Tuesday- Didn't work out this day. I have work and the class on Tuesday so I don't get home till late. Didn't feel sore from the day before.
Wednesday-Very, Very stressful day for me. I wasn't going to workout this day but I decided to anyways. I'm so glad I did. The workout helped me relax and let go of my stress and feel more energized. I love how I am beginning to feel more toned and sculpted.
Thursday- Great day. Felt more energized and even cooked a healthy meal for dinner. Now if I can just cut down (or even stop) drinking sodas.
Friday-Worked out but didn't feel very well. I did what I could but I didn't over do it. I work at a school so it's likely that I might have picked something there.
Saturday-participated in the 2012 Walk Now for Autism Speaks in Houston. It was a great walk for a great cause. We walked a little over 2 miles and our team raised about $400 for Autism research/support :)
I continue to lose some pounds and inches (not as much as I'd like). Here's a link so you can check out my progress.
I am most excited about how much better I feel and how more tall and sculpted I feel.
**Disclaimer: As part of the CWA Blog Review Crew I received a copy of the DVD for the purposes of this review, no other compensation was given.
Shapely Girl Week 1
By the time you read this post I will have completed the first week of the shapelygirl fitness challenge.
What a week it has been!
10-2-12 (workout #1) The video I choose to review was Lets Get Moving 2-Cardio Toning with Weights. It focuses on upper body weight training as well as cardio. I chose this video because my upper body strength is not what it should be. Not to mention toning can't hurt. :) First of all I cried because I couldn't make it all the way through the video. I was frustrated at myself for not being in shape like I should be. Then I cried because Debra and the other two shapely women in the video just resonated with me. They were so positive and encouraging! She talks about embracing your curves and that shapely girls come in all different shapes and sizes That I have curves and that I need to embrace my curves! I also cried when I watched the circle time. I love the idea of circle time. I wish every work out had it! In circle time Debra and the ladies discuss fitness, nutrition, motivation, and any topic that might be on the ladies mind that night. I love the camaraderie and support that the women buld with each other.
I was very very sore after the workout but I felt refreshed.
10-4-12 (workout #2)
The second workout I chose to do only the weight segment of the video. I was able to do more and I felt good. I wish Debra would stop and remind you to drink water or the video would show someone drinking water during the workout. I get so involved in the workout that I forget to drink until it's over. I also after workout I felt less stressed about other areas of my life. Yay for serotonin!
10-6-12 (workout #3)
For the third workout I choose to do only the cardio segment of the video. I like how Debra lets you choose which workout you do. Some days you simply have more free time than others. I felt fantastic. I had much more energy. I felt more aware of my body and how it feels. I also started noticing that I was able to lift things easier that my posture was better and I was able to open jars without the help of my husband!
Now here are my measurements. I didn't go down on the scale as much as I'd like but I did lose some inches. I put my information in google documents so I could compare the data easier. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsGZP8sdLMmtdGxUaS1odUI4cl91QXpuaWtaWVZ4MGc
I'm having a really hard time giving up sodas. Especially during my night class. Any ideas, suggestions, support on how to give them up?
I received a free copy of this book/Ebook/Product to review. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC Regulations. I am part of CWA Review Crew.

About the Book:
Pursuit of Proverbs 31 is a book that dispels the myths surrounding the P31 woman and gives a glimpse into the truth behind these verses of scripture.
It takes us from a works based mentality to one that frees us to accept that Christ is the only one who could ever fulfill scripture. Yet, there is practical wisdom and knowledge to be gained from those verses.
The book dives deep into the character traits represented and how we can accomplish them while keeping Christ as the focus. It is a short read but it is packed full of wisdom and practical application.
My review:
I have to be honest when I first agreed to review this book, I was dreading it. I thought Proverbs 31 was an unattainable list for every Christian woman to aspire to. After reading this book I discovered that I couldn't have been more wrong. I love how this book helps you see beyond that. That each woman is different and that we all are on different journeys What matters most is that we give our lives to God. Everything-our mind, our wills, our emotions, our unrealistic expectations, you name it-give it all to Him. I love how the book is broken down into short manageable chapters with questions, focused thoughts and scripture memory at the end of the chapters. I wish the book was in paperback form instead of ebook. I think it would be great to be able to make notes in the margins of the book while going through it. I highly recommend this book for any woman who wants to draw closer to Him.

I'm super excited to be participating in the Shapelygirl Fitness Review and Challenge this month. First a little about Debra Mazda and then on to me and the challenge.
I absolutely LOVE Debra Mazda's philosphy on fitness. She describes her fitness program Shapelygirl "...as a safe, fun and energizing program for women of all sizes to move, breathe and feel great. The ShapelyGirl Workout is more than just an exercise routine. It's a positive way of thinking about your body and your health. Debra says, "most women believe they have to lose weight before they can take a fitness class. They often feel too intimidated to walk into a health club. They put off thinking about exercising - in fact many women I know really put their entire lives on hold until the "someday" when they reach that magical number on the scale. That scale that is supposed to let them know that it's time to start living. I'm encouraging women to start moving and start living now. Whatever size you are or want to be, whatever diet you intend to start on Monday, no matter how many times you've tried and failed to make healthy changes in your life, you need to start moving today! That's what The ShapelyGirl Workout is all about."
She describes a Shapelygirl as- She's passionate, positive and confident in her curves. She is moving forward to better health. She's comfortable in her body and knows FITNESS COMES IN MANY SIZES. A ShapelyGirl doesnt let her dress size dictate how she feels about herself. She knows who she is, gets up when she falls and never gives up. ShapelyGirls are re-defining what fashion, fitness and beauty mean. No matter where you are on your journey come and join us in the ShapelyGirl Community for ideas, motivation and success stories from ShapelyGirls everywhere." I love this! I want to be a Shapelygirl. No wait I WILL be a Shapelygirl! I also love that she has a no diet contract. Debra encouarges healthy eating and movement not diets. You can download your own copy of the no diet contract here.
You too can become a Shapelygirl! Debra Mazda's products are available at Shapelygirl Fitness You can also follow Debra Mazda on Twitter @DebraMazda . You can also connect with ShapelyGirl Fitness on Facebook.
I will be reviewing Debra's Let's Get Moving 2: Cardio with Weights for the the entire month of October.

I've agreed to work out 3 times a week to the video. I am reviewing this video for the Christian Woman's Review
Now for a little about me
I've been chubby all my life. I am guilty of emotional eating. I am very slowly but surely making progress in this area though. I have medical issues that affected my weight and my life. I have been over weight as much as 300 lbs. My husband and I started eating heathier and exercising several years ago but I just recently started getting serious about my health. I know I will never be a single digit size of clothing. I am totally ok with that. I am not okay with being unhealthy anymore. I want the last three fourths of my life to be the best it can be! I am currently down to 244 but my goal is 200. Here's a picture of me now
No, it is not pleasent for me to look at this picture. But It's me- The good, the bad and the ugly. I am not where I need to be but I am thankful I am not where I was. I am also going to measure myself (actually my wonderful husband is-thanks my love)as well as weighing in each week. I have discovered that you can lose inches but still weigh the same or more because muscle weighs more than fat.
Here are my mesaurements:
Bust: 48" Chest: 42" Waist:51" Hips: 50 1/2" Thigh: 29" Calves: 17 1/2"
Upper Arm: 16" Forearm: 10 3/4
I will be posting every Monday about my progress, struggles and breakthroughs. I'd love to have you join me. I challenge you get get up and move three times a week for 30 minutes. I will be posting a button so you can link up each Monday with me and we can share our stories. I can't wait to hear from you! Together we can achieve more!
Escaping the Cauldron by Kristine McGuire Book Review

About the book:
An eight-year journey through the occult and into freedom
Though Kristine McGuire was raised in a Christian home, at an early age she became fascinated by the occult. At sleepovers she and her friends told fortunes and held séances. As a teenager she was convicted and put all games of mysticism aside. She went to a Christian college and married a Christian man. But despite her decision to follow God, a longing for the occult persisted, leading her to leave her church and husband and to fully embrace witchcraft.
My thoughts about the book:
Once I got started reading the book I couldn't put it down. I didn't realize how many ways the occult influences are in our every day life. This is a topic that Christians seldom talk about even though I believe it definately needs to be addressed. The book helps readers be aware of what is going on in the world and always points the way back to Christ. As well as telling her story, Kristine also shares her insight on pop culture items that we may or may not realize deal with the occult such as Harry Potter, the Twilight Series, scary movies, even yoga. I higgly recommend this book for any Christian.
About the Author:
Kristine McGuire is an inspirational writer and speaker, sharing her testimony and encouraging others in their walk with Christ. A gifted writer, her work has been featured on Positively Feminine, Faithful Devotions, and Praise & Coffee Magazine (Fall 2011). Kristine's testimony has also aired on The 700 Club.
Kristine is a wife and the mother of two adult daughters. She enjoys writing, spending time with her family, long walks, listening to music of all kinds, and experiencing God's daily gift called life.

Mother Of Pearl by Kellie Coates Gilbert Book Review

About the Book:
HOW FAR WILL A MOTHER GO FOR HER DAUGHTER?
Barrie Graeber has two great kids, a loving husband, and a respected job as the high school counselor in her close-knit community. Without warning, everything unravels when her teenage daughter, Pearl, is betrayed by friends and lashes out.
Nothing prepares this mother for the helplessness that follows when her attempts to steer her daughter back on course fail and Pearl shuts her out . . . or when she discovers the unthinkable about her nemesis, the football coach.
Emotionally riveting and profoundly moving, MOTHER OF PEARL brings us into the heart of a mother bound by an incredible burden, who ultimately finds she must recognize her own vulnerability and learn to trust in something much bigger.
My thoughts on the book:
Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down. This is an easy read that deals with current tough issues. The author uses these issues to show God's mercy and grace. I cried in this book and that's not normal for me. I cried because of the tragedy the family had to deal with as well as how all things worked out together for good. I can totally see this book being made in to a made for tv movie on lifetime. I look forward to reading Kellie Coates Gilbert's next novel.

My thoughts about the book:
I believe that this edition of the bible is a must have for every woman. The translation used is not my favorite but it's many "helps" make up for this. It has 24 spiritual practices that are addressed through the Bible. These practices are essential in helping you grow in your Christian life and I love how this Bible addresses these practices in short, easy, practical ways. I recommend this Bible to any woman who wants to get into the Word in a deeper, more user friendly way.

This book is a labor of love from a professional counselor who cared for her own mother in her final days. One hospice described the book as, “An exceptional tool and resource for anyone assisting a loved one going through their final journey. A delightful, heartfelt, open discussion of processes, tips and things to ponder when traveling with them. Well done, and I applaud you. Thank you from all of us.”
My Review
In retrospect, God knew I needed to review this book. One of my family was reccently found out that she is beging to walk her final jounery in life. Peaceful Passage has been an invaluable too in helping my family dealing with the iinital diagnosis and trying to decide where to go from there. It is tremednously comforting to me to know they have this book.
. West was at her mother's die during her last months of life, and chronicled the whole process in order to provide a comprehnsive and proven blueprint for others to follow.
I recommend this book to anyone to anyone with older family members.
About the Author:
Kim West holds a PhD in Clinical Pastoral Counseling and a M.Div. in Counseling and Family, but when her own mother became ill with terminal cancer she found that she had no hands-on knowledge of how to take care of her.
As a counselor she knew to journal her own experience to help her process her grief at losing her mother and she knew how to help her mother finish her life well and be prepared for the life to come. But the day-to-day of taking care of her mother as she died would require learning a whole new set of caring skills. And learn she did.
After completing her own journey with her mother she knew she had to help others who would travel this same path. Peaceful Passage is a merging of her years of counseling experience and the new skills she learned caring for her mother combined with her heart to help and to heal.
Treasures of Healthy Living by Annette Reeder and Dr. Richard Couey
About the Book:
Did you know you can find the answer to many healthy problems in the pages of Scripture? Think of God's Word as a treasure map that leads straight to the healthy life you've always dreamed of. It reveals how you can move from a sickly, lackluster life to one that is full of energy and hope. This practical Bible Study will reveal the truth about the foods you eat and provide simple tools to begin improving your physical, emotional and spiritual health. You won't believe how much your life can change when you grab hold of the treasures God has provided for you.
My Review:
I have to admit that when I recived this book I thought that it would be another "diet" book. I coudn't have been more wrong! This book deals with every part of your life and gives you the biblicial view of healthy living. I found this book to be very do-able. Each week broken down into daily segments with scriptural and pratical applications. The book is part of series and it's not really possible to do the study without the other two books (for more information on the books click here). I wish the three books could have been combined for practicality as well as affordability. Even without the companion books I think this book does any excellent job of teaching healthy living from a biblical perspective.
The Authors:
Annette Reeder will lead you on this journey to biblical health-a journey she knows all too well, as her own family once traveled this same path to discover God's treasures. Annette is a biblical nutrition consultant and the founder of Designed Healthy Living, a consulting program that teaches individuals how to follow a biblical nutrition plan. She is also living, breathing, happy and healthy example of what a person can become when they find the Treasures of Healthy Living
Dr. Richard "Dick" Couey- Professor Emeritus of Health Sciences at Baylor University. Dr. Couey has spent nearly fifty years studying the physiology of the cell. He has especially studied how nutrition, exercise and stress affect the cell's biochemistry and physiology. Dr. Couey's students praise how Dr. Couey can make the complexities of the cell seem understandable.

After All By Deborah Raney
But then she discovers that David carried a secret to his grave.
A secret that changes everything she thought their marriage had been.
For the sake of their sons, can Susan forgive the unforgivable?
Andrea
Morley lost her closest friend in the fire. But she has no right to
mourn him. Instead, she must forever grieve in silence—because her
dearest friend was someone else’s husband. Peter Brennan carries the
weight of the world on his shoulders. As Hanover Falls’ fire chief, he
was responsible for the brave firefighters
who lost their lives that awful November night.
Can he ever shake the feeling that he should have somehow prevented the tragedy?
As
he tries to rebuild the team at Clemens County’s Station 2, it seems he
might find comfort in the arms of the woman he least expected.
My Comments:
In
the first two books, I thought that Susan Marlowe seemed to "perfect"
To put together. In the final book in the Hanover Falls series we see
that she is imperfect like the rest of us. This book does a wonderful
job of reminding us all that our lives are messy. That one person we
can truly count on and put our trust in is God. I also like how the book
shows how unforgiveness can affect people. When it's dealt with and
when it's not. Of all the books in the Hanover Falls, After All is my favorite. ABout the Author:

Fruit of My Spirit Book Review by Deanna Nowadnick
Fruit of My Spirit-Reframing Life in God's Grace by Deanna Nowadnick
About the Book:
In
a memoir of missteps and misdeeds, Deanna Nowadnick writes of the
hugeness of God's love and faithfulness. Reframing life in God's grace,
she discovers an indefinable, inexplicable love that has encircled her
without fail through joyous, sad, cringe-worthy, heartwarming,
forgettable, memorable moments in life.
My Review:
Even
from the introduction of the book I felt as if Deanna was describing my
life. I to have struggled with God's grace in every day life. This
world tries to beat and drag us down . We need to be reminded that God
continues to work in us and through us. This book is a short but
delightful read. Art work along with music at the end of the chapter tie
in nicely to the theme of God's unfailing faithlfulness and grace. I
recommend this book for anyone who feels far from God or like He has
left them.
About the Author

When
not writing, Deanna serves as Client Service Coordinator for The
Planner’s Edge, a financial advisory firm. Deanna is active in her
church, playing the violin and editing the monthly newsletter. She loves
to knit, adores chocolate, and most importantly, enjoys a blessed
marriage to Kurt. They are the proud parents of two adult sons, Kyle and
Kevin.
Deanna
is currently working on Book 2. Signs in Life: Meeting God at the
Corner of Grace and Mercy tells of those times when God has come
alongside and guided, directed and turned her. The book is
another collection of short stories, this time recounting how God has
met her at life’s crossroads, when she’s been “on point” with God, not
because of anything she’s done, but because a loving, gracious, merciful
God was there time after time, again and again.
God was there time after time, again and again.

Book Review: Qur'an:The Dilemma
About the Book:
A book of terror or a book of peace? An inspired text or a political agenda? How is one to know the truth about the Qur’an? Where does one even begin? How can an English speaker ever hope to wade through the history, the translations, the sects, and the commentaries to begin making sense of the issues?
During the last decade, interest in Islam and the teachings of the Qur’an has grown globally. In order to allow Westerners to investigate the truth about Islam, this research text was translated from Arabic to give English speaking readers the opportunity to see the Qur’an with clear lenses that are not fogged by propaganda or missionary zeal. This book provides the background of the Qur’an in an objective manner . It also presents the text of the Qur’an with parallel commentary, addressing important issues that Muslim scholars have wrestled with throughout the centuries, shedding light on their attempts to solve them and giving a rounded view of the various schools of thought.
The critical approach in this book is inspired by the courageous tradition of those who have dared to analyze the Qur’an throughout history, while also incorporating the contemporary intellectual productions available in Arabic and foreign sources. The discoveries made through these scholarly critical methods are directed to non-Muslims and Muslims equally.
My Review of the Book:
This is a superb piece of work. A lot of time and care were taken in creating the book and it shows. It was very eye opening.to see what the Qur'an actually says and how it is interpreted. I have several Muslim friends and have been unsure how to witness to them about Christ. This book book book is an excellent scholarly work. This book would be a great book for anyone who like to understand the Islamic religion better.
The Anthors:
Al Fadi is a former Wahabbi Muslim from Saudi Arabia. He is the researcher, editor, writer, and translator for numerous ministries, including “Answering Islam” and runs an outreach ministry designed for non-Muslim and Christians. The ministry’s focus is to bring awareness regarding Islam, to build bridges with Muslim seekers, and to open the door to share the gospel with Muslims.
Al is a part of a group of former Muslims and professional Islamic scholars who desire to assist both Muslims and non-Muslims who seek to learn more about The Qur’an, to research it, to critically analyze it, and to better comprehend its teachings without the traditional religious and cultural barriers designed to indoctrinate and encapsulate the minds of many truth seekers.
The team is comprised of former Muslims and passionate Islamic scholars who represent various Arabic and Middle-Eastern cultural backgrounds, educational specialties in the field of Islamic studies, and share the same desire and passion for Muslims. They are represented by Islamic researchers, academic teachers, scholars, writers, editors, and translators who span across multiple continents.
Al has a masters in Biblical Communications, Engineering and is a teacher of Islam. He is also the Director of the Qur’an Project Group (www.theQuran.com) and a guest speaker for national churches and mission conferences’ events on the topic of Islam. He has been on numerous Arabic satellite TV shows on the topics of Islam and the Middle East.
He is the editor of “The Qur’an Dilemma” (Arabic version) – a critical analysis of the Qur’an, and the editor, co-author, contributor, and project manager of “The Qur’an Dilemma” (English version). Al is also a frequent guest on radio and TV throughout America, educating the U.S. on the topic of Islam and The Qur’an.

Book Review: The Huguenot Sword
About The Book: In the time of Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu, when being a Protestant could mean death, The Huguenot Sword roamed the streets of Paris by night, defending those faithful to the young heretical religion. The nobility scorned them as ruffians. To the oppressed Protestants they were saviors, but to the Cardinal’s Guards they were a pestilence needing to be terminated.
The situation becomes desperate when those in power launch a bold plan to destroy the group. One wrong move can be fatal. But the ordeal of Paris pales in comparison to the possible annihilation of the faith and people at the Battle of La Rochelle.
My Review of the Book:
I was first attracted to this book because I'm a fan of Shawn Lamb's work. I also recently found out that my mother's side of the family were Huguenots. This story gives life to the history of the Hugenots and well as their plight. The story reminded me of The Three Musketeers, the Scarlet Pimpernel with a little bit of the Princess Bride thrown in. Shawn Lamb does an excellent job of exploring how young adults view faith and how they ultimately must decide what they believe and how their beliefs will affect the rest of their lives. I'm thankful the author put a character list in the front of the book. I often got the names mixed up.
Overall I think the Huguenot Sword is an excellent read! It's a great mix of action, adventure and faith!
About the Author:
Shawn Lamb has written for children's television and has won several screenwriting awards, including a Certificate of Merit from the American Screenwriters Association. She is active in various church ministries and has created her own curriculum based upon Proverbs 31. Shawn lives outside Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband of 25 years and their college-aged daughter.
